Obituary

Lyle Edward Hinspeter, Jr. age 76 of Cleghorn, IA, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Mercy One in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2025, at Grace Methodist Church in Marcus, IA. Pastor Travis Stevick will officiate. Burial will take place at the Meriden Cemetery in Meriden, IA. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA. Lyle Edward Hinspeter, Jr., the son of Lyle and Margaret (Diederich) Hinspeter, Sr. was born June 24, 1948, in Le Mars, IA. His childhood years were spent on the farm near Meriden, IA. He attended grade school in Meriden and graduated from Meriden Cleghorn High School. After high school, Lyle went to Trade School in Sheldon, IA and earned a degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

On August 29, 1970, Lyle was united in marriage to Patti Tharpe. They lived in Marshalltown, IA for a couple of years. In 1972, they moved back to Northwest Iowa, and he worked as a farm hand for six years before working at the Cleghorn Elevator for over 37 years until his retirement in November of 2015. After retirement, he stayed busy by driving truck during the harvest seasons.

Lyle was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Marcus, IA, and a long-time volunteer firefighter for the Cleghorn Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing, playing cards, and golfing. Most of all, he loved the time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Lyle passed away at Mercy One in Sioux City, IA at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Margaret Hinspeter; one brother, Dennis Hinspeter; son-in-law, Pat Kellen; granddaughter, Samantha Clark; mother-in-law, Florence Tharpe; and brothers-in-law, Doug (Joy) Tharpe, Denny (Shirley) Tharpe, and Donny Tharpe.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Patti Hinspeter; his children, Mindy (Randy) Walton, Tammy (Chad) Kollasch, Tonia Kellen, and Travis (Sarah) Hinspeter; his grandchildren, Whitney Walton, Mariah Stallman, Bailey Walton, Carolynn DeYoung, Jared Hinspeter, Tessa Kellen, Konner Kellen, Kassel Kellen, Alex Hinspeter, Andrew Hinspeter, and Anthony Hinspeter; great-grandchildren, Hendrix Reskie and Reagan Stallman; his siblings, Shirley Zanter, Donna (Wilbur) Wittrock, and Chuck (Cindy) Hinspeter; one sister-in-law, Linda (Grant) Geister; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
