Obituary

LYLE S. MUNSON, 86, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Sunday evening, May 30, 2010 at his home in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be military rites at graveside by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com Following the services, there will be a lunch and time of fellowship with the family at the home of Patti & Dan Marsh at 3505 Dakota Ave. in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Lyle was born October 2, 1923 at Obert, Nebraska to Severt and Emma (Miller) Munson. He attended Obert schools and then worked on the farm. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946, being discharged as a Seaman First Class. He was married to Patricia Brown on December 13, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. He worked as head custodian of Younker-Davidson's Department Store in Sioux City for 20 years. He did yard work and he owned and operated Lyle's Janitorial Service in Sioux City for 40 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. He enjoyed playing cards, working on cars, pitching horse shoes, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, dancing and attending Munson Family Reunion's in Ponca, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerry Munson in 2008, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia and six children: Marlene (Ron) Ransom of Sioux City, Iowa; Carol (Steve) Sorenson of Sioux City, Iowa; Lesa (Wayne) Trudeau of North Sioux City, South Dakota; Steve Munson of Sioux City, Iowa; James Munson of Sioux City, Iowa; Patti (Dan) Marsh of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; one brother Sye (Laverne) Munson of Norfolk, Nebraska; one sister June (Bill) Harvey of San Diego, California, many nieces and nephews.
