Obituary

Madonna Rose (Cates) Robinson, 63, of Cherokee, Iowa formerly of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Wednesday morning, August 8, 2012 at the Cherokee Villa.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 2:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10th from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Madonna was born on May 15, 1949 at Cherokee, Iowa to James L. & Rosemary (Lyman) Cates. She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1967. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City and the WIT Nursing Program in Cherokee graduating as a Registered Nurse. She was married to Robert L. Robinson on August 1, 1969 in Washington D.C. She had worked as a nurse at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee Mental Health Institute, a traveling nurse, and worked as a nurse wherever her husband was stationed in the military. She retired in 2007 due to her declining health. She had been a resident of Cherokee the past 4 years and prior to this in San Antonio for many years and also lived in Germany, Ft. Lewis, Washington and Ft. Riley, Kansas. Madonna was affiliated with the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, scrapbooking club, was a volunteer for her grandchildren's school while in San Antonio and was a girl scout volunteer. She enjoyed scrapbooking, collecting unicorns, reading novels, craft painting and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on March 4, 2012, her mother Rosemary Cates in 1974, an infant daughter Bonnie Kristine in 1974, a brother Tom Cates in 2006, maternal grandparents Emmett and Bonnie Lyman, paternal grandparents Chester and Nellie Cates.

Madonna is survived by her son: Robert J. Robinson and his wife Debra of San Antonio, Texas; 3 grandchildren: Maggie, Bonnie & Laura Robinson; her father James Cates and his wife Rose of Okoboji, Iowa; Her favorite sister: Linda (Gary) McClaren of Sutherland, Iowa; 5 brothers: James (Jeanie) Cates Jr. of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Bill (Juanita) Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Chester (Karla) Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Randy (special friend Prudence) Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Brian (LaReina) Cates of Herington, Kansas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Teresa Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Bill (Cathy) Robinson of Calumet, Iowa; Dick (Mary) Robinson of Meriden, Iowa; Chuck (Rita) Robinson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Vicki (Kenny) Fassler of Meriden, Iowa; Linda (Les) Noonan of Lennox, South Dakota; also many nieces and nephews.
