MARCIA "MARTY" ELAINE HAMMOND

Marcia "Marty" Elaine Hammond, age 82 of Cherokee, IA passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Careage Hills in Cherokee, IA. A public visitation celebrating Marcia's life will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA. Burial will take place at a later date in Wall Lake, IA. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Marty was born November 29, 1942, to Chester and Lylis (Witcombe) Sargent. She attended school in Quimby, Iowa.

She married Richard "Dick" Charles Hammond on October 13, 1958, at Sioux City, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Richard, Denise, and Tracy.

Marty held various jobs that involved her love for cooking, taking care of people, and tending to flowers and plants. She enjoyed raising a menagerie of animals, with a special love for birds and Chihuahuas. If there was an animal that needed special attention, Marty was sure to use her special touch to bring it back to health. It was not uncommon to find Marty at an Odd and Unusual Sale to see if there was an animal that she "needed." Her green thumb was prevalent in her gardens and flower beds. If Marty's hands weren't busy with animals or plants, she would also spend time crocheting.

Marty is survived by her children, Richard A. Hammond, Denise Freeman, and Tracy (June) Hammond, all of Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will also be remembered by her siblings, Chet, Judy, Brenda, Terry, Denny, Kelly, and Karla.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick, and sisters Sandy and Karen.
