Margie Admire Strank, 92, of Cherokee, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 20, 2014 at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center, Iowa. Her daughter, Melinda Coogan, and Pastor Kenneth Thrasher of Grace Baptist Church, Cherokee were at her side.
Funeral services will be held in Wellsville, Missouri, where Margie will be buried next to her husband, Gale Benjamin Strank I.
Margie Delene Admire was born October 26, 1921 in Moscow Mills, Missouri to Reverend Lester and Nona Admire. She graduated from Wellsville High School, Missouri, and married Gale Benjamin Strank I on January 1, 1942. After WWII, Margie and Gale moved to Columbia, Missouri where Margie worked at the University of Missouri while Gale completed his bachelor's degree in business and marketing. Margie moved with Gale to Davenport, Iowa upon his graduation, where Gale accepted a marketing position with Deere and Company. She attended Marycrest College and worked as a paralegal with Bozeman, Neighbour, Patton, and Noe of Moline, Illinois. Margie volunteered her time with Junior Service League of Moline, PEO, Chapter GQ, of Davenport, and First United Methodist Church of Rock Island, Illinois. Following Gale's death in 1988, Margie moved to Minnesota to be with her son, Gale Benjamin Strank II until his death in 1998, and ultimately moved to Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in 2008 following her daughter's relocation to Storm Lake, Iowa, to accept a faculty position with Buena Vista University.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gale B. Strank I, her sister, two brothers, and son, Gale B. Strank II.
She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Melinda Coogan of Storm Lake, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Barb Strank and granddaughter Jennifer Strank of Apple Valley, Minnesota; granddaughter Jessica Coogan of Los Angeles, California; grandson Ben Coogan, his wife Jessica, and two great granddaughters, Campbell and Caroline, of Richardson, Texas; and sister-in-law Violet Lehman of Atchison, Kansas.
The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.
