MARIAN L. GROTHAUS, 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, December 25, 2011 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left www.boothbyfuneral.com

Marian was born March 24, 1921 to Leonard & Ruby (Phipps) Smith in Afton Township, Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Cherokee Country School until 1933 when her family moved to a farm west of Holstein, Iowa. She graduated from school in Holstein in 1938. She was united in marriage to Eldon Butcher on December 21, 1938 at Sioux City, Iowa. Marian was a loving mother, busy housewife and homemaker for many years. She married H.A. Grothaus on October 12, 1972. Marian enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, traveling and friendships. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee and Joy Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son Harold Butcher in 2010, her sister Maxine Boock and her husband Glen and daughter in law Helen Fiddelke.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory are two sons: Donald Butcher and his wife Glenda of LeMars, Iowa; John Butcher and his special friend Linda of Holstein, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Donna Butcher of Calumet, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews & friends.
