Marian was born September 1, 1921 at Storm Lake, Iowa to Roy and Ila (Post) Hulett. As a young girl she attended country school near Storm Lake until her family moved to Larrabee, Iowa, where she graduated from Larrabee High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended Wayne State College and attained her two-year teaching degree in 1941. She taught in the southeastern Iowa town of Keota in a combined 1st and 2nd grade classroom. Marian was married to Paul C. Phipps on May 28, 1943 at LeMars, Iowa. Together they spent their married life living and working on the family farm north of Cherokee, Iowa. Marian was a vital, working member of the family farm for over 50 years. She enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, baking cookies, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. She was a longtime active member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Marian also served as a volunteer at Roosevelt Elementary School for several years, helping out in the school hot lunch program. This was a job she really enjoyed as she greeted and served each student with a smile as they filed through the lunch line. In 2003 Marian moved to an assisted living apartment at Countryside Estates where she resided until her death. Marian will long be remembered for her loving heart and her kind and generous spirit. She was never happier than when she was serving others. Her family is grateful for the strong Christian legacy of faith she passed on to them. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul on December 17, 1992, a son Dennis in 1967, a sister Lola Mae Stanford Meeks and a brother Donald Hulett.
She is survived by one son David Phipps and his wife Rebecca of Cherokee, Iowa; two grandchildren: Andrew Phipps of Omaha, Nebraska and Susannah Matousek and her husband Marcus of Derby, Kansas, as well as many faithful and loving friends.
