Marian was born on May 9, 1930 in Mountrail County, North Dakota to Elmer & Augusta (Archer) Ricker. Her family moved to Marcus, Iowa where she attended school. After graduation from high school, she entered the nursing program in Sioux City, Iowa at Mercy Medical at St. Vincent's Hospital. Right before her graduation from nursing school, she contracted polio in 1952. This debilitating disease affected the muscles in her neck and upper body, and she spent an entire year in an iron lung. This however did not stop Marian. She assumed the position of editor in chief of a publication called "Seconds Sanctified" which she took over from Mary Ellen Kelly. This newspaper was communication of hope to people who in their lives were in dire straits. She occupied her time writing articles in her publication and answering mail from people throughout the region. After the passing away of her main caregiver, her father Elmer Ricker, she moved into a care facility in Cherokee, Iowa and eventually moved to the newly constructed Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Marian has entertained many family members and friends throughout the years and has been a bright light to everyone who has come in contact with her. She always made the most of a difficult situation with her physical limitations, but through it all was a great encouragement to all and did not let these adversities hinder her positive outlook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Maurice and Eugene Ricker, and two sisters Patricia Crevier and Evelyn Harrelson.
She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews, 64 great nieces and nephews and 13 great great nieces
