MARILYN J. PRUNTY , 81, of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2018 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 30th, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. Rev. Eric Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa prior to the memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday morning. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 29 th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Marilyn was born on December 6, 1936 at Cleghorn, Iowa to Floyd & Hazel (Mitchell) Springer. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1954 and then attended Morningside College receiving an Elementary Education Degree. Marilyn was married to James Prunty on June 1, 1958 in Cleghorn, Iowa. She was an Elementary Teacher in Cherokee and Quimby Schools and the 4-H and Youth Coordinator for Cherokee County for several years.
She was a member, elder, and choir director of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. She was the Liberty Bells 4-H Leader, a member of Tone Circle, and was on the Cleghorn Library Board. Marilyn enjoyed singing, music of all kinds, canning, cooking, gardening, spending time with her family, and was an avid Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn School supporter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Duane Springer.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James of Cleghorn, Iowa; three children: Kevin (Julie) Prunty of Cleghorn, Iowa; Kyle (Karla) Prunty of Cleghorn, Iowa; Karen Prunty (friend Robert Houck) of Plymouth, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Melissa (Rudy) Fors of Ankeny, Iowa; Amanda Prunty of Sioux City, Iowa; Nichole (Neil) Gustafson of Aurelia, Iowa; Jennifer (Mitch) Rock of Woodbury, Minnesota; Becca (Tony) Davis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Tyler Prunty of Marcus, Iowa; eight great grandchildren.
