Obituary

Marjorie Lucille Graverholt, 95, of Cherokee, IA, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Marge was born October 30, 1920, in Blair Nebraska. She graduated from Blair High School in 1939 and soon married, Bill, her high school sweetheart in Fremont, Ne, July 21, 1939. Married life began on a farm in Herman, NE with no running water, no electricity, but plenty of work to be done taking care of Bill and two children. They stayed on the farm until 1947 when they moved to Blair. In 1953 the family moved to Seattle, Washington, where they started their own construction company.

In Seattle, her family grew with one granddaughter, three grandsons, and eventually two great granddaughters, two great great granddaughters and one great great grandson. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family, especially on Sundays when she prepared the very best family dinners. She also loved her flower gardens and attracting various birds.

In 1977 they acquired their dream home on Lake Goodwin, Washington where all the family enjoyed 20 years of water sports, fishing and of course, the famous Sunday dinners. Then, in 1996 her husband built them the ideal home in Stanwood, Washington.

In July of 2009, Marjorie and Bill returned to the Midwest by moving from Washington State to Cherokee where they celebrated their 72nd anniversary. Marjorie also found lots of joy with her membership in the Cherokee Red Hat Derby Dames.

Marge was a strong woman fighting extreme chronic leg pain for over 25 years but even so, she always managed to have her beautiful smile for family and friends.

Marjorie is survived by her two children, Morgan Graverholt of Cherokee and Jim Graverholt of Stanwood, Washington as well as granddaughter, Sandi Kranig (Robert), Cherokee; grandson, Rodney Davis (Tammy) Mountlake Terrace, Washington; grandson, Kirby Morgan (Jenn), Mill Creek, Washington; great granddaughter, Lindsay Park (Tim), Fort Lee, Virginia; great granddaughter, Ginger Davis, Mountlake Terrace, WA; and two great great granddaughters, Stella and Sarah Park, and one great great grandson, Simon Park, all of Fort Lee, Virginia.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; grandson, Richard; parents, George and Sarah; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Myron.

The family abided by Marjorie's wishes to be cremated and there will be no services at this time. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
