MARLENE KAY KELLY, 85 , of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away at her residence on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Friday. Marlene was born on April 15, 1938 at Cherokee, Iowa to Gus and Opal (Mummert) Jensen. She attended Cherokee Schools, graduating in 1956. She was united in marriage to Clinton Kelly on June 6, 1956, together they had three children.

She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Tim Menke's dentist office. Because of her love for children, she worked as the elementary school secretary at both Roosevelt and Garfield Elementary Schools in Cherokee, Iowa.

Marlene was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. She was an active member, either teaching or being Superintendent of Sunday School for over 40 years.

Marlene loved her family, flowers, traveling, knitting, being outside, swimming in the ocean, and balloon riding in the mountains. She also enjoyed being Mrs. Claus for many years around Christmas time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clinton Kelly in 2022, her son, Todd Kelly, and sister, Delores Vannatta. .

Marlene is survived by her two daughters, Valerie (Mark) Woodrum; Melanie (Joe) Capesius and their children, Gabrielle, Patrick, and Mason; daughter-in-law, Michele Kelly and her children, Amanda and Garrett; two great grandchildren, William and Leana.
