MARLIN J. "MARLY" SCHLEEF , 77, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Accura Health Care in Cherokee, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held Monday, June 17 ^th at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Msgr. Kenneth Seifried will officiate.  Burial of the cremains will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee.  There will be military rites at graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present during that time. Marly was born December 2, 1941 in Cherokee, Iowa to Marlin "Bill" Schleef and Dorinne (Odle) Schleef   He attended Cherokee schools graduating in class of 1961.  He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War from April 23, 1963 until April 21, 1967 and also from January 23, 1968 until being honorable discharged on September 30, 1969 at the rank of E-5.  He was married to Karen McTasney on February 17, 1968 in Cherokee.  Marly had worked construction for several local businesses and also drove truck for Schusters of LeMars, retiring in 2003.  He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Harley Owners Group, ABATE of Iowa, V.F.W. and the American Legion of Larrabee, Iowa.  He enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles, going to Sturgis, helping his boys and being a grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents John & Elsie Odle and John & Josephine Schleef, and a brother-in-law Ron Robinson.

He is survived by four children: Jason W. (Joani) Schleef of Cherokee and their children Henry & Melvin;  James Steward of Cody, Wyoming; Kory (Jill) Putnam of Cherokee and their children  Bubba, Tanner and Madison of Cherokee, Iowa; Wendy (Corey) Soule and their children Jazmine, Jade and Taylor of Boyden, Iowa; a very special friend Peggy Putnam of Kinnear, Wyoming; Marlin's brothers and sisters;  Mary Kay (Dennis) Langholdt of Boone, Iowa; Michael (Shari) Schleef of Columbus Junction, Iowa; Monica (Jerry) Anfinson of Morristown, TN.; Melanie Robinson of Larchwood, Iowa; Mark (Staci) Schleef of Cherokee, Iowa; Matthew (Janel) Schleef of Cherokee, Iowa; Molly (David) Galm of Spencer, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
