MARVIN J. LINDSAY, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa and former longtime rural Washta, Iowa resident, passed away Saturday evening, May 5, 2012 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 9th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Meadow Star United Methodist Church, rural Washta, Iowa. The Rev. Bill Cotten will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Marvin was born August 26, 1926 in rural Ida Grove, Iowa to James Edward Lindsay and Katheryn (Spahn) Lindsay. He attended Blane Country School No. 3 in Ida County, Ida Grove High School, Galva High School and graduated from Grand Meadow in 1944. He attended Westmar College in LeMars and Iowa State College at Ames graduating with a Degree in Agronomy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army from 1944 until 1946. He was married to Janet Nafe on October 6, 1956 at Meadow Star United Methodist Church. He farmed in Grand Meadow Township from 1951 until 1994. Marvin and Janet delivered Winnebago Motor Homes from 1994 until their retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Meadow Star United Methodist Church where he had served faithfully in many capacities. Marvin had been a member of Little Sioux Masonic Lodge #521 at Washta, Iowa for more than 50 years. He had served on several boards in the area including the Pierson-Correctionville Farmers Elevator Board, the Cherokee County Board of Health, and was an avid supporter of the Grand Meadow Heritage Center. He enjoyed building things, welding and electronics.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Janet, and three children; Kevin Lindsay and his wife Becky of Leavenworth, Kansas; Grant Lindsay of Lexington, Kentucky; Amy Duffy and her husband Michael of Pontiac, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Sarah Ragusa and her husband Paul, Casey Lindsay, Naomi Lindsay, Noah Lindsay, Faith Lindsay, Alexa Duffy and Jacob Duffy; two sisters: Phyllis Hiller of Marcus, Iowa; Carole Hollenbeck and her husband Park of Manteno, Illinois; brother-in-law Lloyd Nafe and his wife Bernice of Pierson, Iowa; sister-in-law Dorothy Nafe of Pierson, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
