Obituary

MARVIN F. ZOCH, 92, of rural Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, March 20, 2017 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home at Cherokee, Iowa. Marvin was born on December 23, 1924 at Holstein, Iowa to Fred & Ella (Pingel) Zoch. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1942. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army. Marvin was married to Bonnie Peters on June 25, 1949 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. He had farmed most of his life. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee where he had served on various boards. He was a member of L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F. W., the American Legion; had been a 4-H leader, Farmer's Co-op Elevator Board member and Cherokee County Extension Council Board member. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family, but most of all he loved driving around the countryside in the blue racer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vera Prunty, a great granddaughter Payton Knittel and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie; three sons: David (Judy) Zoch of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Gary Zoch of Cherokee, Iowa; Dale (Kathy) Zoch of Cherokee, Iowa; 4 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; 2 step-great great grandchildren; two brothers: Maynard Zoch of Cherokee, Iowa; Darrell (Gwen) Zoch of Arkansas.
