MARY "LUELLA" COOK, 97, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3rd, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ronald Kitterman will officiate. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at the funeral home at 1:45 Saturday. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2 at 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Luella was born February 9, 1914 at Grant Center, Iowa to Hugh and Anna (Betts) Durst. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1932. She was married to Alva Cook on November 2, 1938 at Sioux City, Iowa. She had worked for the Milwaukee Railroad Depot in Sioux City, Iowa and at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 18 years, retiring in 1972. She had lived in Rodney, Iowa, Sioux City, Iowa and in Cherokee since 1954. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, crocheting, playing cards & games and going to the casino. She had been a resident of Country Side Estates in Cherokee for the last 7 1/2 years. The family would like to give special thanks to Country Side Estates for their compassionate loving care for the past 7 1/2 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on January 30, 2004, a grandson John Bradstreet, a brother Raymond and two brothers in infancy, and a daughter in law Sandra Cook.
She is survived by one son and one daughter: Jerry Cook Spirit Lake, Iowa; Carol Bradstreet and her husband Harry of Cherokee, Iowa. 3 grandchildren: Cathi (Jim) Ellingson of Hartland, Wisconsin; Brenda Cook of Milford, Iowa; Becky (Steve) Letsche of Chaska, Minnesota; 7 great grandchildren: Rachel & Maggie Ellingson, Allie Drifke, Elizabeth (Shan) Keomala, Andrew Bradstreet, Alex & Anna Letsche; 3 great-great grandchildren: Korbin, Kaden, & Karson Keomala; 2 brothers-in-law: Clifford Cook of Havelock, Iowa and Dale Cook of Warrensburg, Missouri and several nieces & nephews.
