MARY ANN MILLER, 79, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, February 13, 2014 at her home in Cherokee.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 17 th at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Jane Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Following the service there will be a lunch and time of fellowship with the family at the Copper Cup. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Mary Ann was born on February 3, 1935 at Cherokee, Iowa to August and Edith (Akerlund) Berglund. She attended Grand Meadow Country School for her early years of education and then in Cherokee, graduating from Wilson high school in 1953. She then attended the University of Iowa for two years. She had worked as a secretary for an osteopath in Iowa City and later as a secretary at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She was married to Marvin (Wally) Miller in 1956. She had been a resident of Cherokee most of her life. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a Charter member of T.T.T. Society, Chapter EZ, numerous bridge clubs, delivered mobile meals, and was involved in the Cub Scouts during her years raising her family. Mary Ann dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandson Max. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, reading, antiquing and gardening. She and Wally loved spending the winter in Texas on Mustang Island. She was a huge pillar of support, guidance and love to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael Miller in 2007, son-in-law Dan Laursen in 2005; three brothers Arnold Berglund, Kenny Berglund and his wife Sally; Glen Berglund and his wife Barb; one sister Florence Bierman and her husband Francis.
She is survived by her husband Wally; three children: Marvin (Wally Jr.) and his wife MaryAnn of Cherokee, Iowa; Elizabeth White and her husband Chuck of Aurelia, Iowa; Sue Miller-Laursen of Larrabee, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Adam Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas; Maddison Miller of Cherokee, Iowa; Sanna Miller of Iowa City, Iowa; Mike White of Dubuque, Iowa; Steve White of Aurelia, Iowa; Gus Laursen of Ames, Iowa; Nate Laursen of Larrabee, Iowa; one great grandson Max; a sister-in-law Evie Berglund of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews and many friends.
