MARY CATHERINE WALSH, 98, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa.  Father Paul Nguyen will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Columbkilles Cemetery at Varina, Iowa.  There will be no visitation.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Mary was born on August 5, 1925 to Louis and Rachael (Lacky) Duethman in Seneca, Kansas.  She graduated from high school in 1943.  Mary was in the United States Army from 1945-1947. She received her college education at St. Catherine's-Creighton, earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1947.

Mary was united in marriage to Francis James Walsh at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina, Iowa on February 23, 1957.  Mary worked as a nurse at the Omaha County Hospital, Buena Vista Hospital and also at Hygrade/IBP before retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Catholic Church.

In her free time she enjoyed bowling leagues, golf leagues, bridge club and was a member of Catholic Daughters.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and putting together puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis "Jack" Walsh, children, Colin Walsh, Larry Walsh, Marijane Sheehan, and Diann (Ron) Mauser, siblings Elmer (Marge) Duethman, Ray Duethman, and Nora(Bob) Lee,  grandson Jason Walsh, daughter-in-law Jean Walsh, and son-in-law Rod Moss,

Mary is survived by her children, Marcia Walsh of Fort Worth, Texas, Mike (Emy) Walsh of Arizona, Val Walsh of Storm Lake, Iowa,  Jim (Fay) Walsh of Tennessee, Jackie Moss of Texas, Pat (LeAnne) Walsh of Cherokee, Iowa, and Marna (Mike) Denny of Michigan; numerous grandchildren and  great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lil Duethman and Ruth Walsh; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Clare and Shirley Walsh,  also several nieces and nephews
