MAX E. WALLER , 95, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2020 at Careage Hills in Cherokee, Iowa.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. It was Max's wish to be cremated. There will be no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee or a charity of your choice in memory of Max.
Max was born on May 28, 1925 on the family farm, rural Marcus, Iowa to Joseph A. & Ethel N. (Booth) Waller. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1943. Max was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Corporal. He was married to Donna F. Miller on January 19, 1947. To this marriage three children were born; Steve, Joan and Betty.
Max had worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute as a supply warehouse manager for 26 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, dancing, walking around Spring Lake Park, working in the yard, his motorcycles, and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna on August 15, 2017, his brothers, a sister, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his three children: Steve Waller of Spencer, Iowa; Joan Waller of Spencer, Iowa; Betty Jean Brown-Smock of Berthoud, Colorado; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
