Obituary

MAYNARD V. ZOCH , 90, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, January 27, 2018 in The Gardens Assisted Living in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1st, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Maynard was born May 10, 1927 at Holstein, Iowa to Fred & Ella (Pingel) Zoch. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1945. He was married to Berneata Mangels on January 25, 1950 at Sutherland, Iowa. He farmed for 10 years and then moved to Cherokee. He went to work for Jesse's Fine Meats for a few years and then when Wilson Foods opened up, he started working there until he retired in 1991. Maynard had also owned and operated "Big Z" Car Wash in Holstein, Zoch Greenware south of Cherokee for 20 years and had been a driver for Siouxland Regional Transit System. He had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since he was eight years old and had served on various church boards and activities. He had been a Board member of the Wilson Credit Union and had been an alternate for Wilson Foods Retiree's Benefit Committee for 16 years. Maynard enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino, short track dirt racing, spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Berneata in 2002, a daughter Janet Stilley in 2016, two son-in-laws Mark Walter in 1990 and Mike Berg in 2017; also a sister Vera Prunty and a brother Marvin Zoch.

He is survived by one daughter: Jane Berg of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a son-in-law: Gary Stilley of Milford, Iowa; one brother: Darrell (Gwen) Zoch of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a sister-in-law: Bonnie Zoch of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews and many friends.
