Merry Ellen Farlee, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, surrounded by her family at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor David Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Merry was born at home on October 16, 1935, in Cherokee, Iowa. She was the fifth of eight children born to Theodore and Helen (Martin) Clark. She lived her adolescent years in Cherokee and graduated from Washington High School in 1955. After high school, she worked at the telephone office. On October 9, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Gayle Farlee, at the First Church of Christ, where they were active members. On April 9, 1957, they were blessed with one daughter, Gaylene Marie Hultman.
In 1958, she moved to Hawthorne, California and returned in 1963, when she and Gayle purchased Quinn's Service Station. Once back in Cherokee, she provided childcare in her home for over ten years, later transitioning to work at Quinn's Liquor Store.
Merry enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed spending many of her summer days at their lake cabin, where she enjoyed spending time on their boat. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandkids and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Helen Clark, husband Gayle Farlee, 4 sisters and their spouses: Joyce & Donald Clark, Margie & Jim Stewart, Janice & Orlyn Jensen, Betty & Denny Kolb, and 2 nephews, Jeff Kolb and Warren Jensen.
Merry is survived by her loving daughter: Gaylene (Ronald) Hultman of Cherokee, Iowa; her grandchildren: Aaron (Roberta) Hultman of Humboldt, South Dakota, Bryan (Cassy) Hultman of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Tricia (Michael) Avila of Menifee, California; great grandchildren: Kinley Hultman, Beckham Hultman, Charlotte Hultman, Madison Mead, Abigail Avila, Marshal Avila and Madison Avila; siblings: Jerry (Joyce) Clark of Cherokee, Iowa, Della (Royden) Rupp of Cherokee, Iowa, and Roy "Butch" (Karen) Clark of Edgewater, Florida; also many nieces and nephews.
