Mildred was born on February 22, 1916 in Plymouth County, Iowa to Carl and Freda (Hoeppner) Olson. She attended country school and spent her childhood years in the Marcus and Remsen area. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1930. Throughout the years, she remained an active and faithful member of the Lutheran church, serving her Lord in various ways.
Mildred was united in marriage to Roy L. Hanson on June 2, 1935 at Cherokee, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children; Roy Jr., Barbara, and Beverly. They were farmers for most of their married years. She worked hard, milking as many as 15-20 cows twice a day and helping with the farm chores. She enjoyed gardening and her beautiful flower beds. In her spare time, she liked to knit, cook, and play cards. And she loved to dance! After her children were grown, she went to work at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. She worked in several areas in nursing service, but she had a great love for babies, and the OB ward was her favorite place, working there for 24 years.
One of the favorite highlights of Mildred's life was when she and Roy took their children and grandchildren to Hawaii for a two week vacation in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. Mildred's grandchildren and family were very precious to her.
Roy passed away on August 14, 1985. Mildred married Allen Stevenson on December 3, 1994 at Cherokee. He passed away on October 27, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Roy Hanson Jr., her daughter Beverly Hartwig, son-in-law Don Kerns, a sister and brother-in-law Lealdra & Lawrence Adolph, a brother Vernon "Bud" Olson, a sister-in-law Louise Olson, and a brother-in-law Barlow Ridley.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Kerns of Mountain Home, AR.; a brother Loren Olson of Alta Loma, CA.; two sisters: Evelyn Ridley of Richfield, MN. and Gladys (Cam) Clark of Escondido, CA., a son-in-law Larry (Diane) Hartwig of The Villages, FL.; 9 grandchildren: Steve (Kelly) Hanson of North Hills, CA., Scott (Sandy) Hanson of Los Angeles, CA., Rachel (Mike) Scott of Waterloo, IA., Debra (Kurt) Blum of Ft.
