MILDRED I. "MIDGE" SPECHT, 90, longtime Cleghorn, Iowa resident, passed away Saturday evening, October 4, 2014 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, south of Marcus, Iowa. Pastor Don Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Midge was born on October 15, 1923 at Cherokee, Iowa to Ellsworth & Agnes (Russell) Crippen. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1943. She was married to Chester W. Specht on April 25, 1946 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, south of Marcus, Iowa. Midge had worked as a waitress, a telephone operator in Cleghorn, as a cook in the Cleghorn Schools, and was a cafeteria worker at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school and had been treasurer of the Ladies Aid. Midge enjoyed going to sales with Chet, going to their cabin in Spirit Lake, collecting kerosene lanterns, crocheting, cross stitch, going to all the kids and grandkids events, baking and always keeping the cookie jar full.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester on August 12, 2010, two sisters Betty Jean in infancy, Marjorie Nielsen and her husband Jens; a granddaughter Rachel (Specht) Kastner; sister-in-law Janet Peck; two brothers-in-law Vernon Hazen and Edward Jones; and two nieces.
She is survived by her four children: Dennis (Donna) Specht of Marcus, Iowa; Cheryl Plagman of Meriden, Iowa; Keith (Juanita "Skeeter") Specht of Squamish, Washington; Caryl (Marv) Robinson of Cleghorn, Iowa; 14 grandchildren., 37 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Wanda Jones of Kirksville, Missouri.
