Obituary

MILDRED A. PATTERSON, 99, of Cherokee and former rural Aurelia, Iowa resident passed away Thursday morning, August 22, 2013 at Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 25th from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Mildred was born April 11, 1914 on the family farm north of Aurelia to Leland and Opal (Menefee) Cave. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1932. She was married to John Patterson on December 31, 1946 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mildred had been a resident of Cherokee since 2005, had lived in Aurelia for 20 years, and prior to that had lived on her family farm north of Aurelia. She helped John around the farm with the farming and cattle operation. She enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. She was a former 4-H member, Junior Farm Bureau member, the Afton Community Club, the Aurelia Town & Country Club, Aurelia American Legion Auxiliary, and numerous card clubs. She loved playing cards with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband John and two daughters; Jean Kruse and her husband Don of Pharr, Texas; Jane Bartling and her husband Darrel of Urbandale, Iowa; three grandchildren; Katie (Mike) Gehringer; Jamie (Mike) Butterworth; Trent (Laurel) Bartling; 6 great grandchildren; Gabriel, Grant, and Gavin Gehringer; Emma, Henry, and Harper Butterworth.
