MILTON L. HALSTROM, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 11th, at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Clint Hogrefe and Pastor Merle Wester will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolence may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Milton was born January 29, 1923 on the family farm in Liberty Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Leonard and Edith (Anderson) Halstrom. He attended Liberty Township #6 country school. He was married to Marjorie Ehlers on June 17, 1945 at Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marjorie passed away on July 27, 1990. He was married to Gwendolyn Bang on June 28, 1991 at the Oakdale Church. Milton had farmed in Sheridan Township for many years, moving to Cherokee in 1991. Milton enjoyed watching the grain and cattle market reports. He was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, his wife Gwendolyn on December 11, 2009, a daughter Diana Halstrom in 1972, a grandson Luke Sawin, a sister in infancy, a sister Lorraine Mortenson, a son-in-law Lenis Todd, sister-in-law Sharon Halstrom, brothers-in-law Max Pixler, Delbert Carlson, Roger Smith and Tom Steele.
He is survived 5 children: Barbara Feenstra and her husband Nick of New Hampton, Iowa; Helen Ames of Meriden, Iowa; Bonnie Todd of Ida Grove, Iowa; Dean Halstrom and his wife Diane of Meriden, Iowa; Mary Sawin and her husband Daryl of Decorah, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one step-son Byron Bang and his wife Helen of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; a step-daughter Sally Volgamore and her husband Curtis of San Antonio, Texas; 5 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; brothers Marvin Halstrom and James Halstrom of Meriden, Iowa; sisters Ruby Pixler of Loveland, Colorado, Arlene Carlson of Peoria, Arizona, Phyllis Smith of Sheldon, Iowa; Bernice Steele of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a brother-in-law Robert Mortenson of Blair, Nebraska.
