NEVILLE H. "LUKE" LUCAS, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday morning, September 15, 2017 in Accura Healthcare.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 19th at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Luke was born on March 22, 1928 at Leader, Minnesota, the son of Charles & Eva (McIalwain) Lucas. He was the 10th of 11 children. When he was two years old, the family moved to Ava, Missouri, where he attended elementary and high school. In January of 1951 he was drafted in the Army, where he served until December of 1952. He was married to Joan Gates on May 4, 1951 in Jackson, Minnesota. To this union three children were born, Dan, Dave and Cheryl. After being discharged from the service, he returned to Cherokee and went to work for Johnson Tin Shop, that became Modern Heating and Cooling which he became owner and operator of in 1970.
He loved his work and proudly passed his business onto his sons and grandsons. His passion was painting and music. He jammed with a group for many years until his health began to fail. When he was younger, he liked to hunt, fish, camp, and play golf. The couple spent several years at the Lakes in the summer and traveling mostly to Texas in the winter. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #230 in Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Robert and Myrna Gates, all his siblings, sister-in-law Betty and Ray Zwick, and brother-in-law Darrell Rapp.
He will be remembered by his wife of 66 years, Joan, his children Dan(Janet) Lucas of Cherokee, Iowa, David (Donna) Lucas of Cherokee, Iowa, Cheryl Trimble (Skip Kaiser) of Pierce, Colorado. Grandchildren, Brandon (Sara) Lucas, Cody (Rachel) Lucas, Amber (Scott) Frantum, Austin (Megan) Lucas, Jake and Josh Trimble. Great Grandchildren, Kai, Cord, Emerson, Mia, Aubrey, Kade Lucas, and Gavin Frantum; sister-in-law Roberta Rapp of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and also several nieces and nephews.
