Obituary

NORMAN V. LAURSEN , 85, of rural Sutherland, Iowa, passed away Monday afternoon, November 13, 2017 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with the family present from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be military rites at the funeral home on Saturday at 5 p.m. by Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion and L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Norm was born on April 7, 1932 at Marcus, Iowa to Nis & Signe (Miller) Laursen Sr. He attended Cherokee Schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Artillery. Norm was married to Dorothy Odom on July 14, 1956 at Cherokee, Iowa. He farmed all his life and was still active in the operations of the farm. He had lived on the same farm for the last 60 years and enjoyed everything about the farm, especially the cows. His greatest joy in his life was his wife and partner Dorothy, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who spent many good times on the farm. He had several hobbies which included bowling, hunting, watching a good western or wrestling on the television, and driving around the countryside down by the river.

Norm was a member of Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion at Peterson, Iowa and L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. at Cherokee, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ervin, Darrel, Nis Jr., and Verle; sisters Betty, Doris, Margaret, Mary, and Verna; brothers-in-law Robert Foran, Alivin Diers, Charles Neustrom; sister-in-law Kathern Laursen; a great granddaughter Shianne Schwebach.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Dorothy; two daughters: Lorna (Stephen) Schwebach of Alton, Iowa and their children David, Paula, and Tyler Schwebach; Lori Klein of Sutherland, Iowa and her children Shane Laursen and Amber (Luke) Martin; eight great grandchildren: Kylie, Tanner, Hunter, Constance, Aubrey, Peyton, Brady, and Noah; a sister Sharon Foran of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister-in-law JoAnn Laursen of Meriden, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
