NORMAN A. MEDICK, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, August 7, 2016 at Accura Health Care (Countryside Estates) in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Norman was born on March 3, 1931 at Cleghorn, Iowa to Andrew & Edna (Noah) Medick. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1948. He was married to Colleen Smith on November 12, 1950 at Cherokee, Iowa. Norman farmed his entire life and thoroughly enjoyed life on the farm, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed collecting antique toys and guns, hunting, stamp collecting and spending time with his family. He had been a resident of Countryside Estates since June of 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Colleen on April 12, 1987, son Harold Medick, grandson Cole Runyan, son-in-law Larry Watts, two sisters-in-law Betty Medick and Phyllis Waldron.
He is survived by his four daughters: Margaret Jellings and her husband Mike of Arlington, Iowa; Sharon Watts of Cherokee, Iowa; Gloria Dreckman and her husband Joe of Marcus, Iowa; Norma Bush and her husband Phil of Cleghorn, Iowa; daughter-in-law Deb Medick of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Jason (Jessica) Brees of Meriden, Iowa; Ryan (Mary-Jane) Jellings of Misawa, Japan; Sarah (Tim) Smith of Marcus, Iowa; Andrew (Jenna) Medick of Kingsley, Iowa; Alicia (Clayton) Hoermann of Nevada, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; two brothers: Delbert Medick of Larrabee, Iowa; Bernie Medick and his wife Kaye of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law Loretta Bendlin of Spencer, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews and many friends.
