ORVILLE "DICK" JOHNSON, 94, of Sutherland, Iowa passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Sutherland Care Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be military rites at the graveside. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Dick was born December 18, 1920 at Truman, Minnesota to Lewis and Rachel (Beedle) Johnson. He attended country school. He's a World War II veteran, having served serving in the 8th Army Air Force from 1942 until 1946. At the age of 12 he hired out as a farm hand in Minnesota. He married Germayne Watson on November 14, 1952 at Cleghorn, Iowa. Dick farmed with his brother Edwin working for John Engel from 1946 until 1965. Dick sold Archer Oil and Watkins products. He drove school bus for Willow Community Schools for many years. He lived near Cherokee from 1952 until 1965, in Washta from 1965 until moving to the Sutherland area in 1985. He worked for Tom Dawson at Washta and also for the Sutherland Farmers Elevator. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts, Siouxland Blood Bank, V.F.W. in Cherokee and American Legion Post #152 in Sutherland. He enjoyed bowling, softball, hunting, fishing, dancing, gardening and teaching Sunday School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 5 sisters and their spouses; Ed (Doris) Johnson, Toots (Vern) Hoppe, Helen (Lawrence) Schendel, Bud Johnson, Ole (Nancy) Johnson, Velma (Chris) Hagen, Swede Johnson, Eldon (Laura) Johnson, Dutch Johnson, Dottie (Jack) Arndt, Marilyn (Harold) Haes, Larry (Alice) Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Germayne, their three children; Dean (Barb) Johnson of Merrill, Iowa; Dale Johnson of Meriden, Iowa; Darla (Mike) Negus of Sutherland, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; Nick & Sandra Johnson and their children McKinley and Syler; Pat & Brenda Johnson and their children Anthony & Mark; Mike Johnson; Trista Reggenitter and daughter DeLanie; Jamie & Brittany Negus; one brother Earl Dean (Elaine) Johnson of Brainerd, Minnesota; four sisters-in-law Carole Johnson of Osceola, Iowa, Jeannie Johnson of Gladstone, Missouri, Lisa Jarvis of Florida, Shirley Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, nephews, great And great great nieces and nephews, and all his friends.
