Patricia Ann Olson, 85, of Cherokee Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate.  Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time.  Private family interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial be made to the family for a future project in Patricia's name.

Born on December 11, 1939, to Jefferey and Margaret (Hansen)Barry, she was a lifelong resident of Cherokee.
After graduating from Cherokee High School in 1958, Patricia attended Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1961, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to help her sister and attended art school. Patricia always had a creative side and loved to draw. In 1963, she went to business school at Nettleton college in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1965, Patricia worked part time at MHI as a beauty operator and in 1966 opened up her own beauty shop in Aurelia, IA. On April 19, 1968, she married Francis "Skinner" Olson. He was the love of her life. After she married, she was a stay at home mom and did daycare for 29 years.
In 2003, Patricia was diagnosed with breast cancer causing her to take a break from babysitting. After 6 years, she was cancer free and returned to watching children.
Patricia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, served on various committees, and was even a Girl Scout leader. Some of Patricia's hobbies were sewing and crocheting, playing cards, bowling, having coffee with friends, and of course playing with her most recent dogs, Gus and Chewy.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Jefferey and Margaret Barry, a stepfather, Williams Rupert, her Husband, Francis Olson, her Mother-in-Law, Hattie Olson, Her sister, Mary Jo Carnine, a son-in-Law, Morey Carlson and many brother and sister-in-Laws.
Patricia leaves behind, her daughter, Mary (Steve) Lonneman of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; stepchildren, Mark Olson of Grand Junction, CO; Randy (Beth) Olson of Little Rock, AR; Matthew Olson of Spencer, IA; and a step daughter, Christine Carlson of Cherokee, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; Brother, James (Diane) Barry from
Grand Junction, CO; brother, Richard Barry of Clive, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Cherokee Regional Hospital, Cherokee Regional Hospice and Accura Healthcare, Cliff Nelson, Matt Gravinish and many other medical professionals for Patricia's care.
