PAUL A. CEDAR, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning December 28, 2016 in Accura Health Care in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 2nd, at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with the family present from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Paul was born on July 13, 1924 at Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arvid & Esther (Anderson) Cedar. He attended school at Liberty Township #6, Larrabee Schools and graduated from Meriden High School I n 1942. He enjoyed playing football and baseball. He attended Westmar College in LeMars for one year. He served in the U. S. Navy Seabees for two tours of duty from 1943 until 1946, serving in the South Pacific at New Guinea, Phillipines and Guam. Paul married Marilyn Hull on June 5, 1948 at Memorial Presbyterian Church. Paul was a member and Elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church. He farmed for many years in the Meriden area, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Cherokee Lions Club, Cherokee Flying Club and the International Comanche Society, L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and Treptow Post #230 of the American Legion. Paul took the Honor Flight of World War II veterans to Washington, D. C. several years ago. Paul's hobbies included his love for flying and fishing. He had served as Cherokee County Supervisor for several years. Paul and Marilyn were very active in their family's activities including sporting events and music programs of their children and grandchildren. They had donated the clock that is placed in the Sanford Park in downtown Cherokee and the fountain that runs at the Spring Lake Park.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 children: John (Val) Cedar of Cherokee, Iowa, Marla (Tom) Kuettler of Woodridge, Illinois,; Jim (Gayle) Cedar of Cherokee, Iowa; Mark (Penne) Cedar of Cherokee, Iowa; Karen (John) Peterson of Cherokee, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren including; Jill (Cedar) & Carle Upshaw and their children Logan, Taylor & Travis Erickson, Dalton, Dakota & Dustin Upshaw, Katie Cedar, Dustin (Kelli) Hahn and their children Dominick, Davin & Dixon, Drew Hahn & Kaye Donnelly, Whitney Hahn & Luke Robinson and their children Bryce, Paxton, Pierce and Paysen, John (Laura) Kuettler, Rebecca (Jim) Van De Casteele and their children Thomas Sam & Molly Van De Casteele, Natalie (Jared) Barkley and their children Elise, Calista & Maddox, Michael Cedar, Ben (Julie) Cedar and their children Cadence & Cora Cedar, Billy Cedar, Sara Peterson and daughter Ella, Libby Peterson and Eric Peterson; a sister-in-law Donna Cedar of Cherokee and her family Neil (Ashley) Cedar.
