PAUL "GUS" M. GUSTAFSON, 79, of Remsen, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Philip "Tony" Bolen will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Paul's honor to a charity of your choice.

Paul was born on March 31, 1945 to Harvey and  Dorothy (Lindblad) Gustafson at Fosston, Minnesota.

He attended McIntosh Public Schools, graduating in 1963.  He then graduated from Moorhead State College in Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Julie Bennett on January 11, 1986 in Sioux City, Iowa.

He worked for various financial institutions in the banking industry as a bank examiner and loan officer.   Paul retired on April 10, 2010.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa.  Paul was also a member of the Remsen Lions Club.

In his free time, he enjoyed Arabian horses and animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Dorothy Gustafson and brother Harold "Mokey" Gustafson, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and David Bennett, and sister-in-law Lisa Fiedler.

Paul will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Julie of Remsen, Iowa; children Paula (Larry) Larsen of Ponca, Nebraska and Shane (Kim) Gustafson of Kingsport, Tennessee; two grandchildren Andrew (Mallory) Larsen of Fremont, Nebraska and Jonathan (Nina) Larsen of Brandon, South Dakota; one great grandson Declan Larsen of Brandon, South Dakota; siblings Debbie (John) Perrone of Schertz, Texas and Mike Gustafson of Frankfurt, Kentucky; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Diane (Robert) Sleezer of Aurelia, Iowa and Daniel (Renee) Bennett of Aurelia and Jeff Fiedler of Cherokee; also several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
