Obituary

PAULINE M. BROWN, 83 , of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday, morning December 27, 2021 at Careage Hills Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Jonathan Caldwell will officiate.  Public visitation will be on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and also on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be made in the Aurora Center Cemetery at Aurora Center, South Dakota at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .  In lieu of flowers, Pauline's family request memorials be made in Pauline's name to the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

Pauline was born on April 3, 1938 to Harold and Gertrude (Kastein) Wessling in Bonhomme County, near Springfield, South Dakota.  She was raised on a farm two miles from Aurora Center.  She was baptized in Springfield Reformed Church and later made her confession of faith at Aurora Center Reformed Church.  Pauline graduated from the Veurink School in Douglas County, South Dakota in 1952.

She married Richard Feenstra on November 15, 1955 at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, South Dakota, to his union two children were born Wayne and Janean.  They were divorced in 1987.

Pauline then lived for a time in Decorah, Iowa and then moved to Sioux City .  In Sioux City, she met Gale Brown at a Christian Singles Dance.  They were married at the Memorial Presbyterian Church on October 31, 1993. Pauline assisted Gale with cleaning and taking care of the Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Peter and Jessie Wesseling and Henry and Johanna Kastein; sister-in-law Berniece Wesseling; brother-in-laws Lauren Bultje and Herman Van Zee; step-daughter-in-law Tammy Hercha-Brown; nephew Tim Wesseling; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her husband, Gale Brown of Cherokee, Iowa; children Wayne Feenstra of Plainview, Minnesota, Janean (Jeff) Speicher of Eldora, Iowa; step-children Mike Brown of Cherokee, Iowa, Sandy (Steve) Trei of Adel, Iowa and Randy Brown of Waynesville, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers James Wesseling of Parkston, South Dakota, Pete (Carol) Wesseling, Larry (Nancy) Wesseling of Belle Fouche, South Dakota; sisters Mary Bultje of Sioux City, Iowa and Joan (Duane) Harris of Harrisburg, South Dakota; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
