Obituary

Peggy J. McClintock Luhring, 84, of Milford – Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away Thursday morning, October 22, 2015 in the Hawkeye Care Center in Milford, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 27th, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Rev. Clint Loveall will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 12:45 p.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present at that time. There will be a D.A.R. Memorial service on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Burial and graveside services will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Quimby Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Peggy Joan Kissinger was born on November 2, 1930 at Washta, Iowa to Louis & Clara (Conley) Kissinger. She grew up in the Washta area and graduated from Washta High School in 1947. She attended Buena Vista College and graduated with a teaching Degree in 1949 and in 1970 attained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Buena Vista College. She was married to Charles W. McClintock on August 13, 1950 at Washta, Iowa. He passed away on July 5, 1995. She was later married to John "Jack" Luhring on February 7, 2004 at Mesa, Arizona. He passed away on September 7, 2015.

Peggy was an elementary education teacher in several communities including Quimby, Washta, Cherokee and Spirit Lake for many years. She was a pioneer in designing Talented and Gifted Programs throughout the State of Iowa. Peggy had resided in Quimby, Iowa from 1954 until 1983, when she and her husband moved to the Lakes area. She had been a member of the Methodist Church in Quimby and Spirit Lake for many years and was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Peggy was a member of P.E.O. and D.A.R. She was also active in the church circles and many social clubs and organizations over the years. She had served as mayor of Wahpeton for two years and was a member of the Okoboji Protective Association. She enjoyed politics and was an active member of the Democratic Party.

Peggy had several hobbies, including music, reading, dancing, sewing, local and family history, and the theatre. She spent winters in Mesa, Arizona for 15 years. She also enjoyed the Iowa Great Lakes and her cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, a brother and sister-in-law Daryl & Evelyn Kissinger.

She is survived by her three children: Joan (Larry) Falken of Grand Junction, CO; Dean McClintock of Parker, S.D; Cary (Neal) Luitjens of Little Chute, WI; two step-children: Brad Luhring of Des Moines, IA; Rebecca (Randy) Spetman of Colorado Springs, CO; 4 grandchildren: Eric (Jessica) Falken of Portland, OR; Megan Fields of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Ben and Sara Luitjens of Little Chute, WI; 2 step-grandchildren: Brian Spetman of Tallahassee, FL; Kim Spetman of Phoenix, AZ; 5 great grandchildren: Hadley and Bridger Falken: Iris, Lily, and Violet Fields.
