Peg (Peggy) Ann Wetherell, 75, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018 in the St. Lukes Lutheran Home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Peggy was born November 2, 1942 at Cherokee, Iowa to Clifford & Ruby (Dicks) Wetherell. She graduated from Cherokee High School and then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. She later attended NW Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri receiving her Master's Degree. Peg had been an elementary school teacher in Spencer, IA; elementary principal in Yankton, SD; curriculum director for public schools near Indianola, IA; elementary principal in Sioux City, IA; Department of Education, Des Moines, IA; elementary principal in Sioux Rapids (Sioux Central Schools).
She enjoyed crafting, knitting, crocheting, and traveling. Her time spent at Lake Okoboji with family and friends brought many fond memories. Peg loved learning. This led to a life devoted to education. As an educator, Peg touched the lives of many people.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Ruby Wetherell; sister Patricia Schulenburg.
She is survived by her sister: Delores (Darrell) Swanson of Milford, IA; brother-in-law: Rick Schulenburg of Des Moines, IA; Special nieces and nephews: Bryan (Amanda) Swanson of Omaha, NE; Linda (James) Cline of LeMars, IA; Susan (Cory) Coulander of Spencer, IA; Jeremy (Elizabeth) Schulenburg of Des Moines, IA; Eleven great nieces and nephews who brought her much joy.
It was Peggy's wish to be cremated. There will be private family graveside services at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .
