AURELIA
PHYLLIS M. CUTHRELL, 94, of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, June 5, 2026 at her home in Aurelia, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, located at 207 E. Main Street in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor David Orthmann will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Boothby Funeral Home located at 207 E. Main Street in Cherokee, Iowa. Phyllis was born on August 15, 1931 to Fred and Ruth (Case) Hohbach on the farm in Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended Rural Tilden #4 and graduated from Marcus High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to James O. Cuthrell on May 27, 1951 at Caramel Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. She stayed at home raising their 5 children and assisting James on the farm. She also worked for Bauman’s Bakery and Sunset Knoll Nursing Home for 32 years, retiring in 2014.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Cherokee, Iowa and a member of the Sunset Knoll Auxillary.
Phyllis loved taking care of people, especially her grandkids, playing piano, and participating in Bible Studies and going to Sunday night services.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Hohbach, siblings Wilbur (Ardith) Hohbach, Lorna (Burnell) Schroeder, Velma (Ron) Townsend, and Betty (William) Gross.
Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Jolene Schumacher of Cherokee, Iowa, James Cuthrell of North Liberty, Iowa, Paul (Linda) Cuthrell of Peterson, Iowa, Jerri (Chris) Klumpp of Aurelia, Iowa, and Chris Cuthrell of Aurelia, Iowa; 9 grandchildren Ruth Schumacher-Martinez (Joe Martinez), Jarred Schumacher, Michael (Tera) Cuthrell, Coutney (Jason) Rasmus, Katie (Matt) McKibben, Casey (Krista) Cuthrell, Andrew Klumpp, Geoffrey (Abi) Klumpp, and Sophia (Jake) Lohman; 18 great grandchildren Gabe and Leo Martinez, Zoey, Ella, Lucy, Ivey, and Reed Cuthrell, Jacob, Ellie, Brynn, and Caleb Rasmus, Masyn, JB, and Russell McKibben, CeeJay Cuthrell, Kamryn, Kadyn, and Kennedy Klumpp; also many nieces and nephews.
