Obituary

PHYLLIS M. HILLER, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday evening, June 1, 2016.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4th, at 10 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Iowa. Pastor Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Marcus, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Phyllis was born on July 31, 1928 in Blaine Township, Ida County, Iowa to James & Katheryn (Spahn) Lindsay. She was baptized on June 23, 1929 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was raised on a farm in Ida County, until 1944 when her parents purchased a farm west of Grand Meadow. She graduated from Grand Meadow Consolidated High School in 1945. She was a key punch operator for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha for three years and also at Iowa Public Service in Sioux City.

Phyllis married Russell Irwin Hiller on May 3, 1953, at Pierson, Iowa. They lived on a farm in Tilden Township, south of Marcus for 35 years, before retiring in 1988, when they started wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Russell passed away on October 20, 1996.

Phyllis was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and the neighborhood O.A.O. Club. She enjoyed her family, sewing, card playing, genealogy (she published 3 different family genealogy books), and the computer.

She was preceded in death by her brother Marvin Lindsay.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Bruce and Julie Hiller of Cherokee, Iowa and a daughter, Beverly Jean Hiller of Lakewood, Colorado, one sister and her husband Carole and Park Hollenbeck of Manteno, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Janet Lindsay of Pontiac, Illinois. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and her step-mother-in-law, Margaret Sipes Hiller of Cherokee, Iowa.
