PHYLLIS A. MILLER , 97, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the Primrose Retirement Community in Council Bluffs.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Michael Agnew will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .

Phyllis A.( Klinzman) Miller was born on August 26 th , 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Frank & Mamie (Watkins) Klinzman. She graduated from North Des Moines High School in 1941 and then attended Drake University to receive her teaching degree. She was initiated into Kappa Alpha Theta, a membership she still retained.  She served as secretary to the Associate Pastor of University Church of Des Moines. She taught 2 nd grade in Marcus, IA. In 1943-45 until she married Wilbur A. Miller on June 24, 1945. They became parents of four daughters- Linda Annette, Virginia Kay, Anita Marie & Diana Lee.

She was a stay-at-home mom until 1965 when she accepted the position as secretary of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, where she remained for 37 years.  She was active in many aspects of church life, to include teaching Sunday School for 30 years. She also loved playing in the bell choir and accompanying congregational singing on the piano. During this time, she also gave piano & organ lessons in her home. She was an active member of Eastern Star. Phyllis was honored by being named 'Woman of the Year' in 1980.

In 1982, she was saddened to lose her husband, Bill after 37 years of marriage.  But she continued to find fulfillment in her life in Cherokee.  In 2011, Phyllis moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa to be near her daughter Diana & her husband Ron, where she resided at Primrose Retirement Community until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Anita, her sister, Mary, and her parents. She leaves to mourn-daughters Linda McCall of West Des Moines, Iowa, Virginia (Ginny) Locke of Parker, Colorado, & Diana & her husband Ron Davis of Council Bluffs, Iowa, her brother, Frank Klinzman of Vero Beach, Florida & sister Patty Funk of Minneapolis, Minneapolis, Minnesota,12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee or Primrose Retirement Community in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
