Obituary
RALPH C. BROWN, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday morning, July 7, 2008 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Church, rural Peterson, Iowa. Mr. David Orthmann will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John's Church Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. There will be military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Ralph was born on June 2, 1923 at Peterson, Iowa to Harry & Bessie (Allen) Brown. He graduated from Peterson High School in 1942. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate 3rd Class in the South Pacific. He was married to Arlene Kracht on November 16, 1944 at rural Peterson, Iowa. He graduated from the College of Mortuary Science in St Louis, Missouri, becoming a funeral director. He worked for the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee from 1951 until 1971 and other funeral homes in Iowa, retiring in 1986. He had been a resident of Cherokee most of his life and was originally from Peterson, Iowa. He was a member of the St. John's Church, rural Peterson, Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion at Peterson, Iowa; L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. in Cherokee. He enjoyed attending high school sporting events and was an avid major league sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Beverly in infancy and a grandson Shawn Brown in infancy.
He is survived by his wife Arlene; 4 children: Rodney Brown and his wife Marci of Cherokee, Iowa; Peggy Jaminet and her husband Fred of Cherokee, Iowa; Greg Brown and his wife Cheri of Peterson, Iowa; Jeff Brown and his wife Patty of Cherokee, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Terry, Hillary, Mindi, Ryan, Shane, Lacy and Chad; 4 great grandchildren: Calvin, Amelia, Ella and Josie.
