Obituary

RALPH W.  GODFREY , 95, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 18, 2018 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22 nd , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa . Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with Masonic services to follow the visitation at 7 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Ralph was born May 10, 1923 at Washta, Iowa to Wilfred & Ina (Hunter) Godfrey. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1942. He then attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II being discharged as a Staff Sergeant on  December 16, 1946. He was married to Beverly Stellish on April 9, 1947 at Cherokee, Iowa. He had farmed for many years, was an electrician and a carpenter, retiring in 1985. He had been a resident of Cherokee the past 10 years and prior to this had lived in Odebolt for 38 years and before that in the Quimby area for 47 years.

He was affiliated with the Methodist Church, a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and was a 50 year member and past master of the Masonic Lodge. He was amember of the Little Sioux Wildlife Association and a lifelong member of the Iowa Streetrod Association. Ralph enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards especially hearts, playing dominos, going to car shows, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly on April 8, 2008, sister Pauline Don) Smith, brothers-in-law Kenneth Irwin and Wayne (Ann) Stellish.

He is survived by his three children: Darrell (Vickie) Godfrey of Holstein, Iowa; Loren (Sharon) Godfrey of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Darlys (Don) Winebrinner of Bothell, Washington; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Adam (Kady) Godfrey and their daughter Adeline; Casey Godfrey; Jill (Jamie) Tuttle and their children Titan and Talus; Eric Winebrinner; his sister Maxine Irwin of Washta, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and many friends.
