Obituary

RALPH E. WOLTMAN, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 20th at 10:30 a.m. at St.. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. on Friday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Ralph was born June 13, 1918 on a farm in Rock Township to Henry and Elsie (Addy) Woltman. He attended country school in Tilden Township. He was married to Fern Bierman on February 21, 1940 at Sioux City, Iowa in a triple wedding with his brother Harold Woltman and his sister Edith. He and his wife farmed in rural Marcus, Iowa until 1964, when they moved to Cherokee. He was semi-retired when the couple moved to Cherokee in 1964, but was still involved with farming the rest of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a former Tilden Township Trustee, Tilden Township Election Board, had served on the Cherokee Airport Commission and Cherokee Flood Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, baseball and kitten ball in his younger years and traveling all over the United States and Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern in 1993, a son-in-law Steven Millikan in 2001, two sisters Edith Clark and Erma Fuhrman and three brothers Floyd, Harold and Irvin Woltman.

He is survived by his five children: Gerald Woltman and his wife Rachel of Cherokee, Iowa; Loren Woltman and his wife Darlene of rural Cherokee; Dale Woltman and his wife Paulette of Overland Park, Kansas; Joann Millikan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Randy Woltman and his wife Carol of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; sisters-in-law: Irma Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Dorris Kintigh of Storm Lake, Iowa; Gwen Bierman of Kingsley, Iowa; Florence Ritchey of Macomb, Illinois; Mary Bierman Bumann of Cherokee, Iowa; a brother-in-law Junior Bierman and his wife Dorothy of Cherokee, Iowa.
