REV. RICHARD L. ARNDT, 66, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home.
Richard was born December 23, 1943 at Blue Hill, Nebraska to Louis O. and Dorothy (Schunk) Arndt. He graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1962. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1962 until 1968. He studied at St. John College in Winfield, KS, University of West Florida and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, graduating in 1976. He was married to Leila Kay Lacy on December 26, 1976 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He had served his vicarage in Eldora and Wellsburg, Iowa and served as pastor at several Missouri Synod Lutheran Churches, including Kimball, Plainview and Ogallala, Nebraska and had served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee for the past 12 years. He was a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and biking, collecting model trains and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Leila Kay Arndt, his children; Tim Lacy of Sidney, Nebraska; Rich Arndt of Alliance, Nebraska; Jonathan Arndt and his wife Christy of Chipley, Florida; Tara Arndt of Lincoln, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren; Brennan, Ashanti, Maya and Jacob.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Larry Lemke and DCE Matt Eiden will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran World Relief or the Orphan Grain Train.
