RICHARD D. “RICK” NELSON, 71, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Following services at the church, the family invites everyone to the Cherokee Golf Course for a time of fellowship in Rick’s honor. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Rick’s honor to the Cherokee Golf Course.
Rick was born on December 16, 1954 to Roy and Beverly (Green) Nelson at Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School and went on to attend Northwest Iowa Community College, earning his electrician license. He was united in marriage to Nancy Hyndman on January 2, 1982 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Together, Rick and Nancy had two children, Megan and Chad.
Rick was a lifelong farmer and retired from farming in 2025. He was a master electrician, where he owned and operated Nelson Electric in Cherokee, Iowa. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved his Green Bay Packers. He was a proud member of the Cherokee Golf Course, where he volunteered and loved to spend time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bev Nelson, father-in-law and mother-in-law Malcolm and Dorothy Hyndman, and brother-in-law Mike Olhausen.
Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy Nelson of Marcus, Iowa; two children, Megan Nelson of Johnston, Iowa and Chad Nelson of Johnston, Iowa; sisters Diane and Keith Zevenbergen of Sioux City, Iowa and Nancy and Dave Hughes of Orange City, Iowa; sister-in-law Molly Olhausen of Cherokee, Iowa and brother-in-law Matt and Cindy Hyndman of Sioux City, Iowa; also nieces, nephews, and many friends.
