Obituary

RICHARD D. "DICK" HAMMOND, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away
Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home.

Visitation and a time of sharing stories and memories will be on Saturday, October 5th, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. The family would invite everyone to the V.F.W. for lunch following the visitation. Burial will be at the Sunset View Cemetery at a later date. Dick was born October 7, 1935 in Willow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Cecil and Veris (Fogleman) Hammond. He attended schools in Cherokee. He served in the U. S. Army. He was a truck driver, had worked in the oil fields of Kansas, and worked concrete construction in Fort Dodge and the Cherokee area. He retired in 1997. Dick enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, watching ball games and spending time with his dog "Misty".

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Paula, two brothers Cecil Hammond and George Hammond, a sister Deanna Faye Hammond, and a brother-in-law Bob Brown.

He is survived by three children; Pam Lawless of Waterloo, Iowa; Doug Hammond of Waterloo, Iowa; Tayla Einerwold of Wisconsin; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings; Carol (Robert) Beck of Cherokee, Iowa; Koreen (Phillip "Bud") Tharp of Cherokee, Iowa; Gordon (Donna) Hammond of Cherokee, Iowa; John (Dori) Hammond of Ellsworth, Kansas; Pat Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada; Peggy (Robert) Bevenour of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Steve (Margaret) Hammond of Simi Valley, California; Kim Powers (Dennis Altman) of Meriden, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
