Obituary
RICHARD "DICK" HOWARD, 67, of rural Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday evening October 8, 2010 surrounded by his family at his farm home southwest of Cherokee.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Gregg Johnson will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. until
8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. It was Dick's wishes to be cremated. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Dick was born on March 24, 1943 at Oelwein, Iowa to Aaron & Evelyn (Ponsar) Howard. While growing up, he attended rural country school until the 8th grade and then graduated from Sumner High School in 1963. He was married to Susan Meighan in 1963 in Gurnee, Illinois. He was later remarried to Deanne Woltman Sievers at Remsen, Iowa in 1977. He worked for Kirchman Plumbing in Sumner for two years, Young Plumbing and Heating in Oelwein for two years, John Deere in Waterloo for three years, and State Aerial Farm Statistics Inc. as a sales manager for about 40 years in Toledo, Ohio. Due to health reasons, Dick had to retire in October of 2009. He enjoyed training and riding horses while he was growing up, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and hanging out with his friends and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in law and father-in-law Edna and Harold Woltman.
He is survived by his wife Deanne; 3 sons: Dan, Rick and Bob Howard all of Maynard, Iowa; 2 step-sons: Tim Sievers and special friend Stephanie of Aurelia, Iowa; Tracey Sievers of Quimby, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Raquel, Nick, Jessica and Coltin Sievers; one brother: Robert (Susan) Howard of Peosta, Iowa and their daughters Jill, Kelly and Becky; 5 brothers-in-law: Doyle (Nancy) Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Merlin (Sue) Woltman of Quimby, Iowa; Duane Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Lloyd Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa; Darrell (Lori) Woltman of Aurelia, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
