RICHARD W. LOCHNER, 76. of rural Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, October 10, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

Richard was born on April 2, 1938 at Meriden, Iowa to John Henry "Mink" & Edith Merle (Jackson) Lochner. He graduated from Meriden High School in 1956. He worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute from age 16 until 18; worked at Swanson's Grocery warehouse for one year. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and after boot camp in Fort Benning Georgia he was stationed in Japan as a postal worker until his discharge in 1960. He worked construction for one year at Paul Park in Storm Lake; Ruble's Service Station for one year and then for two years at Deleplane's Shoe Store. Richard then started farming part-time and went to work at Wilson Foods packing plant from 1965 until his retirement in 2000. He was married to Peggy Jo Conley on December 24, 1961 at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church from 1980 until present and had served as a deacon for a number of years. He sang at church, the nursing homes, and at funerals when he was asked. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, church activities, and spending time with family, grandchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Lochner, sister & brother-in-law Joyce & Gerald Hultman, sister Carol Hetrick, brother-in-law Gary Herron and a nephew Mike Hultman.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lochner of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters and one son: Lori Lochner of Cherokee, Iowa; Kim (Mark) Tuttle of Cherokee, Iowa; Jim (Jonnie) Lochner of Grand Cayman Island; 4 granddaughters: Mariah and Mikaela Booth, Tracie & Jessica Tuttle all of Cherokee, Iowa; three sisters and one brother: Dorothy Lochner of Turlock, California; Shirley Lochner of Cherokee, Iowa; Lois (Arwin) VanWyk of Sheldon, Iowa; Ronald "Paul" Lochner of Lebanon, Missouri; brother-in-law Carey Hetrick of Cherokee, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
