Obituary

RICHARD D. "RICK" JOHNSON, 63, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away peacefully Thursday evening, June 8, 2017 with his family by his side at his home south of Cherokee.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home at Cherokee, Iowa. Mr. David Orthmann will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Good Hope Cemetery at rural Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rick was born September 21, 1953 at Cherokee, Iowa to Carl & Lillian (Hanson) Johnson. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1972. He was married to Sherri Schuknecht on December 28, 1974 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Rick worked at Wilson Foods from August of 1972 until his retirement from Tyson's in March of 2009. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, joking around, spending time with family and friends, and loved to take his garden produce and share them with his neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Roy and Irene Schuknecht, and a brother Dennis Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Sherri, three daughters: Rachel (Curt) Fredericksen of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Erica (Nick) Clark of Cherokee, Iowa; Kayla (Jeff) Linn of Cherokee, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one more on the way: Emma and Ali Fredericksen; Nicholas and Colt Clark; Linsey, Abby, and Lucas Linn; one great granddaughter Avalyn Cundy; brother Jim (Jo) Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; many family and friends.
