Dick was born on August 4, 1946 in Cherokee, Iowa to Bernard & Ruth (Johnson) Robinson. He graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1964. He was married to Mary Gill on June 3, 1967 in Cherokee, Iowa. He worked at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital (now Cherokee Regional Medical Center) from 1965 until his retirement on July 10, 2010. Over the years he had been a part of the emergency response crew and was head of the maintenance department.
Dick was very involved in his local community. He served on the Meriden Fire Department for 30 years, and as Chief for 23 years. He also served in a variety of positions including baseball coach, city councilman, and other county and city board positions. The love of Dick's life was his wife, Mary. Dick and Mary loved to take trips, and drove all over the country with only a road atlas and each other. Dick was his grandkids' biggest fan. No matter the weather, he was on the sidelines, cheering and supporting each and every activity. He was an avid golfer, and played on the men's league in Marcus for over 30 years. Dick was also a proud member of the "hole-in-one" club. Family was very important to Dick, especially spending time with his wife, children and their families, brothers, sisters, and in-laws. He was an amazing friend, and a fantastic storyteller, who loved to gather with friends to share good times and laughs. Dick never met a stranger, and will be missed by so many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Robinson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary; two children and four grandchildren: Tim (Laurie) Robinson and their children Abbie and Aaron of Overland Park, Kansas; Tammy (Chad) Butterfield and their children Maddie and Spencer of Shawnee, Kansas; his brothers and sisters: Bill (Cathy) Robinson of Calumet, Iowa; Chuck (Rita) Robinson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Vicki (Kenny) Fassler of Meriden, Iowa; Linda Blitsch (Les) Noonan of Lennox, S.D. and many very special nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
