Obituary

Richard Thomas Steimke, 74, of Bloomington, Minnesota, originally from Larrabee, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2010.
Son of Clarence A.H. and Gladys I. (Dawson) Steimke, raised on the family farm near Larrabee, Iowa, graduated from Larrabee High School, Morningside College, and Mankato State University. Served his country in the US Army in Korea, spent his professional counseling career in Minnesota, retired from state vocational rehabilitation positions. Dick led an intellectual life, a student of history, a lover of fine books and classical music, a singer, a poet and a writer. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.
His memory is cherished by his sister Linda L. Steimke (Bob) Youde of McCall, Idaho; one nephew Blake E. (Heike) Youde and two sons of Brentwood, Missouri; and several cousins. The family wishes to add special thanks and recognition to Dick's two lifelong friends, Jim Swift and Merlyn Kimbell, for their friendship and support.
Family Interment will be at Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee on Friday July 16, and an informal reception for friends and relatives will be held at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, from 6 to 8pm. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
