RICHARD D. "RICK" STEVENSON JR. , 65, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, March 23, 2014 in Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28 th , at 10:30 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Don Meyer and Vicar Scott Strohkirch will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from

Rick was born on April 12, 1948 at Cherokee, Iowa to Richard "Dick" & Betty (Stroud) Stevenson. He attended Quimby and Willow Schools. He was married to Elaine Grell on February 25, 1966 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa. Rick drove truck for Stevenson Bros. Trucking from 1966-1973 and then went to work for the HyVee Distribution Center driving truck for several years. He later became the warehouse foreman and eventually was the transportation manager, retiring on October 9, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Quimby, Iowa. He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby.
Rick served Quimby in several ways. He was on the steering committee that started the Willow Booster Club, serving in several offices for many years. He served on the town council for 28 years and was president of the Quimby Community Center for 11 years. He also served as Sunday school superintendent and financial secretary for Pilgrim Lutheran Church for many years. Rick was also instrumental in starting and serving on the board of the new Quimby Golf Course. He is currently serving and has served on the Quimby Fire Department for 46 years. Rick also served a stint as assistant Boy Scout leader and Little League baseball coach. In retirement, Rick volunteered mowing at the Quimby Golf Course and spent time camping and going to sprint car races. Rick also actively assisted with his son-in-law's Military Family Readiness Group to include coordinating single soldier holiday meals at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard D. Stevenson, two sisters-in-law: Deb Sears and Jeanette Gaylord.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Elaine; 3 sons and 1 daughter: Troy (Kim) Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; Tracy (Angie) Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; Tyson (Debie) Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; Teanna (Mike) Athanasakis of Clarksville, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren: Trevor & Teagan Stevenson; Tenise & Trent Stevenson; Dylan Dalton; Carre & Tejay Stevenson; Andi, Mikey, & Max Athanasakis; his mother: Betty Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; one brother: Jim (Lorri) Stevenson of Quimby, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Pam (Dick) Pierce of Madison, Wisconsin; Pat (Perry) Martens of Climbing Hill, Iowa; Mike (Betty) Grell of Columbus, Nebraska; Charles Gaylord of Davenport, Iowa; Dan Sears of Grinnell, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
