RICK  W.  HIRSCHMAN, 60, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 in the MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa.  Father Daniel Rupp will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home (Greenwood-Schubert Chapel) in Cherokee, Iowa. The family would like everyone to honor Rick by wearing their favorite team or game day clothes to the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to them for a future project in Rick's honor.

Rick was born April 8, 1965 at Cherokee, Iowa to Richard "Dick" and Darlene (Hauger) Hirschman. He grew up in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1983. He attended Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge, Iowa graduating in 1985.

Rick had worked for HyVee since April of 1981 in various positions; most recently as store director of BDI (Beverage Distributors of Iowa) a HyVee sudsidiary.

Rick was a member of the Catholic Church.

Rick enjoyed golfing, skiing, and softball, and was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Chicago Cubs. He loved grilling, gardening, and entertaining friends and family. His dogs, Hank and Henley, held a very special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard (Dick) and Darlene Hirschman, grandparents Willie and Ann Hauger and Ivo and Irene Hirschman, also several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Rick will be lovingly remembered by his brother Steve (Kelli) Hirschman of Aurelia, Iowa; sisters Renee (Dan) Conley of Cherokee, Iowa, Jan (Peter) Koch of Austin, Texas, and best friend and sister Sue Hirschman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces Kati (Brian) Gorman, Amy (Lyle) Schumann, and Jessica Koch; nephews Tyson (Julia) Conley, Jon Conley, Nick (Ugo) Hirschman, and Christopher Koch, great nieces and nephews, Coy and Bryn Lewis, Graysen, Hudsen, and Samsen Schumann, Ella and Duke Gorman, Theo and Alivia Conley, Cale and Ada Conley, and Ike Hirschman; also several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
